Urban Beauty Legend: Gabrielle’s Skin Care Line
I was initially confused when I read Gabrielle Union was launching a new skin care line for women of color on Twitter. Union has been a Neutrogena spokesperson since 2004. Among the many commercials she’s done for Neutrogena, her Visibly Even commercial stands out because I thought it was specifically geared toward women of color. Just now, I logged on the website and noticed that the only product available for the Visibly Even line is the Daily Moisturizer SPF 30. Is the Visibly Even line being phased out to make room for this new collection exclusively for women of color? This might be the case! I also checked out the…

This beauty breakdown for Serena Williams is courtesy of her makeup artist, Carlene Kearns. She posted what she used on Serena Williams, who attended Clive Davis’ annual pre-Grammy Party Saturday night. Amber Riley Essence Magazine Makeup
Yesterday I finally picked up the March 2011 issue of Essence Magazine (with Angela Bassett on the cover). I was looking forward to a couple of features in this particular issue – the Essence 2011 Beauty Awards, Angela Bassett’s “Unstoppable” and of course, Amber Riley’s “She’s Every Woman” photoshoot. I shot celebrity makeup artist Saisha Beecham an email after she revealed that she did Riley’s makeup on Facebook. I am totally grateful that Saisha emailed me back, and I’m able to share this information with you all! She used all NARS Cosmetics. You can check out her Facebook and Twitter.

Billy B’s Tweet to Black Opal Beauty: “Where the Hell Are They?”
Recently, celebrity makeup artist Billy Brasfield (“Billy B.”) took to his Twitter to pen a mini-rant to beauty brand Black Opal. I thought his tweet was funny but sad. The man does have a point; have you found Black Opal Cosmetics in your area? I had a rude awakening back in October. I wanted to try a couple of Black Opal products, like the True Color Liquid Foundation and the True Color Stick Foundation SPF 8. I also wanted to pick up my beloved Invisible Oil Blocking Loose Powder. I’ve visited three stores – two Wal-Mart locations and a Walgreens – and have been sorely disappointed since I’ve moved to Washington. The…

Urban Beauty Legend: Monica for Orly Beauty
Did you know R&B singer Monica is collaborating with Orly on a nail polish line scheduled to come out in July 2011? She tweeted, “Thanks to Team Monica [for] the support, [I] just closed the deal for my nail polish line. It’s an extension of Orly. Orly is an amazing product found in spas, Sally’s (as in Sally Beauty) and many other beauty supply stores so this is an honor. Heading into the manufacturing plant now.” She then added, “My kids, family and fans support is the reason I am able to do these things. So I will name one polish after one of my fans VERY soon…” Monica tweeted that she…
