Marsha Ambrosius’ look on the 2014 BET awards red carpet was a combination of sleek and edgy. As told to Blaq Vixen Beauty by celebrity hairstylist Tiffany Daugherty. Check out her profile at Epiphany Agency.

Her natural hair was shampooed and conditioned using Motions Straight Finish Cleanser and Straight Finish Leave-In Conditioner. This conditioned the hair and created the base for the sleek look. After the Leave-In Conditioner was applied, the hair was blown dry with a medium paddle brush and a Cricket Q-Zone Professional Lightweight Dryer. The hair was then flat ironed with a Sedu flat iron to give a more smooth effect.

I then parted a 4″ in square section in middle of the crown and separated it. This hair was temporarily pinned up, to be used later as volume for the style.

With the remaining hair, I pulled to the nape of the neck and clipped in a row of extensions for added length. The hair was braided using a fish tail technique, using Motions Light Hold Working Spritz on the hair as I braided. I would spray the hair, braid a small amount, spray the hair and continue to braid until end of hair was reached. The spritz gave the perfect amount of hold and control but allowed the hair to be pliable while braided down and over the right shoulder.
Marsha Ambrosius Motions HairThe previously clipped middle section of hair was released and I applied Motions Straight Finish Sealer before flat ironing the hair. With a medium flat iron, I straightened this section of hair, using a bevel technique. Simply, I rounded the hair from the root while flat ironing it. This gave the hair height and volume.  This volume and section of hair was blended into the fish tail braid, again using Motions Light Hold Working Spritz for control.

A small amount of Motions Shine Enhancing Pomade was applied to the front left and right sides of the hair to control the edges and create sleekness around the frame.

To finish the look, I sprayed Motions Hold & Shine Styling Spray for control and brilliant shine! The hair was set and lasted all night!
