I knew I should've picked up the April issue of Essence yesterday! In their "Shade Shift" story, Zoya Nail Polish in Gemma was one of the "Colors of Success" that Essence recommended. It's shades like this that give neutral palettes a twist. This was the same shade that Glamour beauty editor Baze Mpinja tweeted about in February. "Day 2 and no chips," she said.
Skip into a color romance with Zoya this Spring! Designed to recreate the custom looks seen on the runways of New York Fashion Week, the Intimate Nail Polish Collection will be available starting tomorrow. The new elegant metallics and cremes in this collection are Marley (lavender pink with a whisper of metallic), Dove (delicate, pale gray cream) Caitlin (misty, moody gray violet cream), Dannii (sparkling, enchanted orchid metallic), Jules (soft, glimmering gold kiss metallic) and Gemma (mysterious green/purple duotone metallic).
For the week of January 7-14, I decided to post a bit more beauty posts this week so I wouldn't be tempted to deviate from my goal for this month! Out of the ten beauty stories we posted this week, six were based on a press that I received in the past two weeks. In fact, the most popular post this week was derived from a press release about Dr. Dre's new video "Kush." Here are the posts for the second week of January just in case you missed them:
The MAC Pink Friday 4 Lipstick poll is still going on! Two more weeks left before I either host a giveaway or do a post on how to wear this limited edition shade. I wish I had more information about when MAC Cosmetics will bring it back. So far, 57% percent of you want me to do a post on how to wear it plus post dupes for Pink Friday 4.
Also, are you need in some free software geared toward women? If so, then enter our ChicaPC-fix Software giveaway. 20 winners will each receive a 1-year license key by email. This giveaway will end on January 29, 2011 at 11:59 PM PST.
Editor's Note: The product mentioned in this article have been provided by Radapro through It's a Glam Thing.
Nowadays, when I paint my nails, it's just to see how a certain color will look before I go and get them professionally polished. More often than not, I'm either in the middle of a blog post, researching or shopping online when I decide to break out the polish. I've developed a bad habit of skipping the base coat and top coat. Furthermore, instead of pausing to let them dry correctly, I'm back at work, typing away. Please do not ask me why I do this - I have no idea but I feel like I can't slow down sometimes. I have to keep moving!
I have never been so eager to have the perfect, D-I-Y manicure/pedicure before I was sent the Radapro Nail Station. However, I decided that I would test this system out on my sister first. I think that the whole set-up inspired me to slow down and focus on my polishing technique. It also inspired me to create space for a mini-mani/pedi station in my room.
This station includes a hand/foot support stand, polish holder, accessory tray, pump bottle for polish remover and two washable 100% cotton slip covers. I can't tell you how great it was to get a professional-style pedicure for free with the Radapro Nail Station. I didn't have to hold the polish because the polish holder could be tilted for an easy reach.
Do you think I had to worry about accidentally spilling my polish remover? All I had to do was place my cotton ball on the top and press down until it was saturated with polish remover. It holds 4 oz. of polish remover. It's similar to the design of the Zoya Remove + Nail Polish Remover bottle. I've actually kept the bottle because it reduces my chances of staining my bedsheets, clothes, and rug! I didn't have to worry about spilling my polish either!
Overall, I am pleased with the Nail Station but I wish that it included a swivel bowl like the Manicure Station. You can do manicures with the Nail Station as well but the way that it is designed, I feel that it is more suited for pedicures. Also, the accessory tray could be a little bigger because I've been sent more nail polishes and treatments. I'd like to put them in the accessory tray so that they're all in one place. If Radapro could create a bigger tray or add another attachment for more products, that would make me so happy!
Nonetheless, I urge you to either buy this system for yourself or give it away because Radapro is running a holiday special on this item. You can get it for $19.99 (regular price is $24.99)!
In addition to the three matte must haves Zoya debuted back in July, they're introducing three new limited edition gems for Winter 2009/2010:
Savita (ZP504) - a gunmetal plum matte with shimmer (middle)
Harlow (ZP505) - a gunmetal rose matte with shimmer (far right)
Veruschuka (ZP506) - an evergreen matte with shimmer (far left)
All of three of these shades are available for pre-order now. They ship September 15. I find all of them gorgeous, especially Savita and Veruschuka. I have a soft spot for purple polishes. You know, before I would shy away from green until I wore Zoya's Midori. Oh my! How can I explain it? It seems like the medium green shimmer popped against my skin. Then, when I wore my snakeskin heels, I was really impressed. The two shades - green and dark brown - complemented each other beautifully.
You know, while I was typing this, I grabbed Posh. It is a wine matte with subtle shimmer. I love the way it applies - it's so gorgeous when it's wet. It reminds me of a sparkly Christmas ornament. However, when it dries, it's almost like the music stopped. It's too dull. I prefer my polishes to twinkle like diamonds. I love when my nails catch the light. It makes me feel that much girly. On a brighter note, the record drying time is a plus for me, since I spend a majority of my time on my laptop. I really don't have time to wait for my nails to dry completely. I know that sounds weird but it's true.
I know that Zoya's matte polishes are not meant to be worn with a base coat, top coat or speed dryer of any kind. But when I saw that Lachelle from Polished Beauty Blog rock Dovima (which is like the Dark Knight of the Zoya mattes, even if it's not exactly black) with Zoya Armour Topcoat/UV Block, I was that much tempted. It looked so gorgeous, as if the Dark Knight had finally seen the light. (ha!) I wonder how Posh would look with a little shine?
With all the different nail brands marketing this trend, have you already experimented with mattes? Or is this one trend you can't embrace?
When Solange was asked by MTV Style the cheapest thing she copped recently, Solange confessed, "I don't know if this would be considered cheap, but this suit, which everyone keeps asking me if it's some high-end designer, is a $150 suit from Mango. It's amazing. It's not the cheapest thing, but it’s definitely reasonable!"
