The fashion credits for episode 11 (“Death Will Have His Day”) is still in draft but I was able to get a jump on this week’s episode. First, thanks to Mary Collins of Vauje Jewelry enthusiastically sharing that Cookie Lyon wore one of her necklaces (from her “Empire Inspired” collection) all over her Instagram (follow her at @vauje), I secured my first sighting of the night. And now, after a little searching, here’s the rest of my findings (with cheaper and black-owned alternatives where appropriate):
Taraji P. Henson
Anyone that has been keeping up with Cookie Lyon’s wardrobe this season knows that the multi-millionaire hasn’t worn many affordable items as of late. However, later on today, we will see Cookie wearing a $85 custom gold necklace by black-owned brand Vauje Jewelry. Take a gander at the exquisite neckpiece below:

Counting Betsey Johnson and Lanvin as inspirations, jewelry designer Mary Collins has created luxurious statement pieces since 2009. Now, thanks to the show’s costume designer Paolo Nieddu, she’s made her way to the Empire! I was so excited to learn this latest development as I have been following Collins for a while. I first discovered her work when I saw The Real Housewives of Atlanta star Marlo Hampton modeling Collins’ Gold Crown 1 on Instagram. Eventually I’ll splurge on a Vauje crown for myself. But, in the meantime, I made sure to order my very own Cookie necklace. Would you splurge?
Last season, I yearned to know what products the Empire makeup department used on their leading ladies. I was absolutely famished for beauty tidbits so I hit up IMDB to see who was working in Empire‘s makeup department. I briefly exchanged tweets with the show’s chief makeup artist Beverly Jo Pryor (who was so warm and generous) for a time, asking what shades Taraji wore in certain scenes and with particular outfits. Unfortunately, there was not much she could divulge but I understood.
As for Anika, Grace Gealey replied to me and another fan on the ‘Gram to say her makeup artist Jessica Williams used MAC Pro Longwear Lustre Lipcolour in ALL Nighter on her in the episode “False Imposition.”
However, The Cut had all the behind-the-scenes tea. Both Pryor and Empire‘s lead hairstylist Melissa Forney detailed their routines, regimens and processes for the cast.
Happy Wednesday vixens! I thought I would get the Empire festivities started early with a fashion post. In “Enough!,” a sneak peek from tonight’s episode “Our Dancing Days,” we see Cookie Lyon (Taraji P. Henson) following her ex-husband Lucious Lyon (Terrence Howard) and Vernon Turner (Malik Yoba) into the Empire building. In an earlier sneak peek episode, I only saw Cookie’s white collar and a portion of her pinstriped blouse. I literally thought, “Is Cookie starting to dress like Anika now? Why?” But after watching this new promo, I instantly recognized the python and pinstriped print dress.
In “Out, Damned Spot,” Cookie Lyon (Taraji P. Henson) sheathed her enviable bod (as we officially saw last night) in a Diane Von Furstenberg Snow Cheetah Large Silk Jersey Wrap Jumpsuit.
Currently a DVF exclusive and on sale for $299 on the site, this piece employs the brand’s most iconic jumpsuit style and their signature silk jersey. While most of Cooke’s voluminous mane hid most of the jumpsuit’s collar, I could clearly see the banded tie waist which aided my search!
