I had to take a break from buying more lipstick from Maybelline and Revlon to shop my stash. I discovered that I had three red shades from the CoverGirl Queen Collection Vibrant Hue Lipstick range in Cherry Bomb, Shiny Port Wine and Bordeaux (disclosure). Let's take a look at them, shall we?
Do you remember Mary Kay's "Beauty That Counts" initiative last year? Mary Kay Creme Lipstick in Apple Berrywas the star product. Mary Kay plans to donate just under $2 million from the worldwide sale of this lipstick to causes that help women of children to escape domestic violence, survive cancer, restore hope and experience the gift of family.
Now, for 2009, Mary Kay has doubled the donation. This time, you have the choice of purchasing Gingerbread(not new) and Pink Passion(limited edition/new). Recognizing the plight of domestic violence victims, Mary Kay plans to donate $1 from each sale of these lipstick shades as part of their "Beauty That Counts intiative" yet again. This initiative supports the Mary Kay Ash Charitable Foundation in its efforts to terminate domestic violence.
The Mary Kay Creme Lipstick are described as being "enriched with emollients and moisturizers that protect against moisture loss, while simultaneously providing stunning color. They are lightweight and creamy as well as equipped with a fragrance-free formula and subtle vanilla flavor. Could you see yourself kissing domestic violence goodbye with this lipwear?
Now, I know what I'm about to say might upset of some of you die-hard Mary Kay fans but I am not impressed. What I would like to know is why Mary Kay thinks it is acceptable to only donate $1 out of the sale of a $13 lipstick? On a brighter note, I am glad that Mary Kay disclosed the amount that will benefit domestic violence victims instead of saying "a portion." Still, I am not convinced that Mary Kay is making enough effort to make a difference around the world.
However, you might want to check out this map. It provides visual proof that Mary Kay's "Beauty That Counts" initiative is making a difference not only in the U.S. but in places such as Brazil, Argentina, Mexico, Spain, Portugal, United Kingdom, Germany, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Poland, Moldova, Ukraine, Russia, Kazakhstan, China, India, Korea, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Malaysia, Philippines, and Australia/New Zealand. This is the result of the sales from the Mary Kay Creme Lipstick in Apple Berry.
