Bring It On: Actress Gabrielle Union Shares Hair Tips and Favorite Product on Twitter

Gabrielle Union's Hair on TwitterI should've listened to my instincts on this one the first time around! I saw the following tweets from Gabrielle Union (@itsgabrielleu) last Friday in which she shared photos of her "No weave, no relaxer, no hot comb" hair. Shortly after she said, "All done...I've been reunited with my scalp...and it feels soooo good (Peaches and Herb voice)."

After Hello Beautiful originally posted the pics, Union replied that she hadn't had a relaxer in over ten years nor was her hair straightened with a hot comb.

Breakin' all the rules?

MBNYFW 2010: Avon + Mackage + Tippi Shorter

The more I look at these photos from the Mackage Fall 2010 Fashion Show, the more I am reminded of Charlize Theron's character in Aeon Flux. Not exactly her wardrobe, but her hairstyle.

Digging this look? Avon's Global Stylist Advisor Tippi Shorter created the hair look for the show with support from the Avon team. This length, side swept bang complemented the sexy but slim and detailed silhouettes that have become Mackage's trademark.

"This look was really inspired by the woman who had her hair perfectly done the night before, wakes up and tries to recreate the look. It's a look that I refer to as 'second day chic.' It's a sexy and mysterious look that works perfectly with the designs."

- Tippi Shorter for Avon

To recreate the look, dubbed "Second Day Chic," Avon recommends the following products and steps:

>>Apply Advance Techniques Volumizing Mousse to hair that has been dried straight , evenly distributing to create a sturdy base for the style. Use a comb to create a deep, diagonal part that extends from the hairline just above the outer corner of one eye to the crown.

>>Using a round barrel brush and brow dryer, create a defined part by blowing the front section forward to create a dramatic sweep across one eye.

>>Just below the crown, backcomb a 2-3" section of hair and drape over the back of the head to distribute the teased pieces. Gather the bottom section of hair (below the diagonal part) and tie off into a low ponytail using a clear, elastic band.

>>Mix Advance Techniques Moisture Sleek Smoothing Serum and Shaping Gel and apply by hand to the front section of hair enhancing the drape across the front of the face.

>>Gather the draped section of hair and pull into the loose low pony, securing with bobby pins. Finish with Advance Techniques Mirror Shine Spray for a high shine finish.

How to Get Monica's Hair from the 2011 Grammys

Monica's Makeup at the GrammysYou have Monica's makeup look by Mylah Morales, now get her hair by Ursula Stephen! “Monica was wearing an origami inspired dress (by Stephane Rolland, which Monica loved wearing), so I wanted the hair to have some contrast and shape. Her hairstyle is one that can be reworked on a daily basis and is easy to have fun with.” This half pixie, half mohawk cut is sexy and feminine.

  • Start by premoisturizing the hair. Motions Oil Moisturizer Lotion makes wrapping and molding the hair easy.
  • Comb the hair out and apply Motions Light Hold Working Spritz all over.
  • Separate the hair into small sections and curl with a small set iron. By curling each section in different directions, it creates drama and life. “Right away the hair stands up on edge," reveals Stephen.
  • Take a dime-size of Motions Shine Enhancing Pomade, mix in a serum, and run hands together. Push the product all the way through the hair, shaping it as you like by using the pomade.
  • For added lift and dramatic effect, tease the roots at the crown of the head with a comb. Keep hair in place by finishing with Motions Hold & Shine Styling Spray.

How to Get Rihanna's Hair from the 2011 Grammys

Rihanna at the 2011 Grammys, Hair by Ursula Stephens By far, this has to be my favorite shade of red on Rihanna. Celebrity hairstylist Ursula Stephen said, "First, I looked for a new red color and brought a variety of options to try but ultimately felt this one really stood out as the best." I completely agree - this shade stood out in a great way.

“When Rihanna and I collaborate, we are always searching to recreate her image through her hair. Since we’ve recently done a lot of texture and length, we wanted to mix it up. While we talked about going shorter,  I wanted to try something a little newer on her than the sleek bob that you are used to seeing."

What's her name? Red.

How to Get Jada Pinkett-Smith's Hair at the 2011 Grammys

Jada Pinkett-Smith at the 2011 Grammys, Hair by Marcia Hamilton

Jada Pinkett-Smith's voluminous crown of curls was the work of none other than celebrity hairstylist Marcia Hamilton. Achieve this look with White Sands and IT&LY HAIRFASHION products:

  • Begin by using the White Sands Vegan Moisturizing Shampoo and Moisturizing Conditioner.
  • Towel dry hair and spray White Sands Porosity The Fix from roots to ends. Celebrity hairstylist Tiffanie Dixon used this same product to enhance Whitney Houston curls for her January 2010 InStyle cover. This spray helped her curls to "dance with every move."
  • Section the hair vertically - from the center of the forehead to the nape. Cornrow each section straight back - again from the forehead to the nape.
  • Dry the cornrows with the IT&LY HAIRFASHION Ionic Blow Dryer.
  • When the hair dries completely, apply IT&LY Pure Water Drops in the palms of your hands. While gently unraveling the cornrows, massage the drops throughout the hair.
  • When all the cornrows are completely undid, flip your hair down and over to create dramatic volume like Jada's.
  • For the finishing touch, finger comb the hair and massage more IT&LY Pure Water Drops.

Unfortunately, we don't have her complete beauty breakdown, but we do know what she used on her skin: La Prarie Cellular Power Infusion. At $475, this treatment keeps her skin revitalized and glowing.

Mane Mondays: How to Create Your Perfect Sideswept Shag with Celebrity Hairstylist Dante Blandshaw

Taraji P. Henson at the Oscars

I'm sure many of you are welcoming autumn with a new hair color and cut - I'm still not done experimenting with new hues this season - so I thought it would be appropriate to post how to get your best sideswept shag with tips that celebrity hairstylist shared with Glamour magazine back in July 2009:

Start with the right cut. This remix (as Taraji P. Henson models here at the 81st Annual Academy Awards last year and in the Tyler Perry film I Can Do Bad All By Myself) of the classic bob is all about layers. Ask for longer ones on the sides and angled fringe. "Asymmetrical bangs add sex appeal," says stylist Dante Blandshaw, who gave Taraji P. Henson her shag.

Piece out. Rub smoothing cream between palms and then onto damp hair, starting at the ends; it keeps them choppy in a good way.

Ditch your brush. After blow-drying, run a wide-tooth comb through hair (a brush will flatten it). "Or shake it out," Blandshaw says. A good cut should fall right into place.

Vixen, Validated: How to Get Kimora Lee Simmons' Hair in the April/May 2010 Issue of Los Angeles Confidential Magazine

I'd like to think that the reason why Kimora Lee Simmons looks so off on the April/May 2010 issue of Los Angeles Confidential Magazine is because someone went a little too PhotoShop-happy. I may be blatantly wrong but her cheekbones almost overwhelm her face. In my opinion, Kimora is a gorgeous woman. I'll always appreciate the fact that she introduced fabulosity to the masses. Makeup by celebrity makeup artist Christopher Michael, who is also Kimora's makeup artist on her show, Life in the Fab Lane. Manicure by Jenna Hipp.

Celebrity hairstylist Marcia Hamilton created soft, romantic waves by using White Sands and IT&LY Hairfashion products. The hair looks Absolutely Phabulous:

>>Start out by spraying a volumizer from foot to ends, then brush product evenly throughout the hair.

>>Take small sections of hair, starting from the bottom of the head. Blow dry each section using a medium round bristle brush.

>>Next set the hair with using the 1.33 Inch White Sands Curling Iron. Pin each curl at the base then spray with a medium hold thermal hairspray for added hold and shine. Let the curls sit for a few minutes.

>>Unpin the curls then brush out while head is suspended upside down. This position creates added volume at the root.

>>Flip head back and shake the curls into place for a soft tussled look. Finish with a light mist of IT&LY Hairfashion Pure Definition Hairspray.

Keri Hilson is the New Face of Imari and Avon's Color Collection

Avon recently announced that award-winning songwriter and singer Keri Hilson has joined the Avon family as the face of Imari, Imari Seduction and Avon's flagship Color collection! According to Avon, Hilson represents the modern Avon woman due to her "magnetic appeal, singular talent, and classic beauty." The brand has also said they "are thrilled to have her on board as the face of Imari and our Color collection."

"I’m so excited and honored to be Avon’s newest face,” says Hilson. “Avon has always been dedicated to empowering women through beauty. I’ve always strived to do the same with my music. To be a part of that experience means a tremendous amount to me.”

Starting in August 2010, Keri Hilson will appear in the pages of Avon's brochure for Imari and Color throughout the remainder of the year. Her first official appearance on behalf Avon will be performing at their annual sales conference this month.

P.S. I love her hair here! I think I might try this hairstyle next. Also, Keri is wearing the Big Color Eye Pencil in Eggplant (big surprise, right?!) in the video. Hair by Tippi Shorter; makeup by Paul Innis (Warren-Tricomi Management for Avon Cosmetics).

How to Get the Hairstyles of the Ladies of Why Did I Get Married Too?

This past Friday, I saw "Why Did I Get Married Too?," the sequel to Tyler Perry's 2007 "Why Did I Get Married?" If you haven't seen it yet, I won't go into details about the movie but I am tempted to go see it again just because. In the meantime, I've contacted celebrity hairstylist Charles Gregory Ross, who was the head of the hair department for the movie. You have (hopefully) also seen his work in I Can Do Bad All By Myself, Madea Goes to Jail, Black Dynamite (shocker!), Meet the Browns, and The Family That Preys.

Why did you get married too...or not?
