EXCLUSIVE: On the Set of The Preacher's Kid with Celebrity Makeup Artists Denise and Janice Tunnell

"In The Preacher's Kid, actress Tammy Townsend's look is glamorous from start to end. For most of her makeup look we used products from Illusions Cosmetics," Janice Tunnell told Sophisticate's Black Hairstyles in the March 2009 issue. "We used a lot of powders, and we have a blush in the color Terra Cotta (right) that I like to use on her. I also like to apply a gold shimmery eyeshadow under Tammy's brow bone. I use a lot of Cargo's Bronzer on her cheeks. My best tip for applying bronzer? If it's a shimmery bronzer, I like to apply it in the cheek area. But if it's not shimmery, I like to use it in the area where I normally contour - the forehead, the jaw line and the cheeks."

Denise described Essence's character in The Preacher's Kid as "very bright and loud!" On Essence's makeup, Denise says, "Her eyes have a lot of color on them! We'll do sheer lip glosses, light pink blush, but then I'll use a lot of Illusions Cosmetics Eye Dust on her in colors like light yellow, light blue and green. I also like to use Precious Eyes Eye Color Pencils from Colors by Cynde Watson in Amethyst and Gold. I'll use it on the lower portion of her top lid so when she opens her eye, you can see just a flash of color! Sometimes I'll just use a lot of liner just as her eyeshadow and pump up her eyes with faux lashes and mascara.
LeToya Luckett also stars in the movie. "Actress/singer LeToya Luckett's character in the movie The Preacher's Kid is a young lady who is heavily in the church. Throughout the movie her character develops into a young lady...who plays with a little more makeup and becomes more glamorous," explains Denise. "The character grows up from being a Daddy's Girl and into a woman. LeToya likes Chanel blush in a light, pretty coral color. We loved to use faux lashes on her. As her character developed we used Ardell Fashion Lashes Strip Lashes in 110. LeToya also loves Revlon's ColorStay liquid foundation. It's really good for her, and we actually applied it by airbrushing it on her!"

The Beauty Closet: IMAN Cosmetics Luxury Liquid Eyeliner Review

Editor's Note: The products mentioned in this article have been provided by IMAN Cosmetics, Pencil Me In Cosmetics, and Ardell for editorial consideration. Please make sure to follow IMAN Cosmetics on Twitter and join the fan page! Iman is holding a Holidays 2009 Beauty Sweepstakes which ends on Tuesday, December 15, 2009 at 11:55pm. You can win $64 worth of IMAN Cosmetics!

Described as "the best eye candy glitter ever" by Iman, you might be hesitant about applying IMAN Cosmetics Luxury Liquid Eyeliner. However, I urge you to not deny yourself a chance to sparkle! If you apply a touch of IMAN Luxury Liquid Eyeliner in Copper to the inner corners of your eyes, you won't have to worry about it looking too heavy or extravagant. Just blend it until there's a hint of sparkle. This is exact shade and technique that Iman sported on The Wendy Williams Show. Of course, you could use any of the four shades but if you're not keen on glitter, start with Copper first.

I tested IMAN Luxury Liquid Eyeliner in Platinum and IMAN Luxury Liquid Eyeliner in Sapphire. I've found a few ways to create different looks with these liners:

Apply to the upper lash line. Extend IMAN Luxury Liquid Eyeliner beyond the outer edge of your lash line to create an edgy, sexy metallic  cat eye. I'm planning to wear my LA BELLE Beaded Goddess Bubble Dress soon and I wanted to create an effortless, glamorous look. IMAN Luxury Liquid Eyeliner in Platinum is the perfect product to complement my outfit. Platinum is liquid aluminum foil in a bottle. If you have a penchant for bold, dramatic shades, Platinum is a must-have!

Apply your favorite black liner, add your favorite false lashes and trace the base of the lashes with IMAN Luxury Liquid Eyeliner. While it might seem obvious to reach for Onyx to keep the look uniform, why not try Sapphire? How would I describe this mythic hue? Imagine crushing dark sapphire, Bermuda Blue and Heliotrope Swarovski crystals into a fine, liquid paste. That's IMAN's Sapphire. With Pencil Me In Cosmetics Healthy Eyeliner Pencils in Jet Sparks as my base,  I'd reach for Ardell Fashion Lashes in #131 and the Fashion Lashes Starter Kit to complete the look.

Lastly, I'd like to provide you with another look: Combine spiky, separated lashes with vibrant eyeliner. Rihanna wore spiky, separated lashes with a thick fuchsia line on her upper lash line at the launch party for the Nokia X6 in London. If you want to recreate this look, use Ardell Fashion Lashes in #102 Demi or #104. Coat the lower lash line (or upper lash line) with any of the IMAN Luxury Liquid Eyeliners. Go with a glossy, light pink or nude gloss.

The Vanity: Who's Afraid of the Long, Lush Lash?

Fatima Siad for Arise Magazine

I am.

Baze Mpinja, beauty editor at Vibe Vixen, Suede and now Glamour, used to be until she took the Fake Lash Challenge last year. After writing that she was taking a break from false lashes, a reader wrote in to say that she was "shocked" that a beauty editor would shy away from falsies.

I can understand where Baze is coming from though. I know falsies have been around way before the glamorous days of  Dorothy Dandridge and Marilyn Monroe but still.  Furthermore, Essence has said that lashes with unexpected shapes are in this season, especially if you want to be a Makeup Diva.

When I read that, I was like, "I still haven't mastered Lashes 101 and now you're telling me I should be hitting up Shu Uemura to upgrade my lash game? Are you kidding me?!" Yeah, I was losing it until I chatted with Tia this afternoon.

She was telling me that she had fallen in love with NYX lashes. I told her that I wanted to try them as well but every time I muster the courage to apply lashes, it always looks a hot mess.

She asked me how I apply them. First, I apply glue on the band. I wait a few seconds, and then I try to fit them to the curve of my lash line with tweezers. That's where I mess up. Even with the Revlon Fantasy Lengths Maximum Wear Self Adhesive Eyelashes, I still had trouble. However, my sister were able to apply them perfectly. This aggravated me to no end. Why? Because her specialty is hair, not beauty, yet ol' girl were able to get a flirty look within seconds. Hmph.

However, Tia recommended the Sephora Brand Lash Placement Kit. This soft-tipped applicator promises to "provide the perfect placement of lashes and then, removes them with ease." It has a soft, anti-bacterial storage stand that retains the natural lash curve. You'll save time and you won't have to worry about making a mess.

Do you know that when I purchase this, it'lll be my first purchase from Sephora? Ever? Please, no photos! I know that might be unheard of but I'm used to being the exception. Maybe I'll inspired me to build my beauty bank...who knows?

Back to Baze. Inspired by Baze's previous "too thick, too long and too distracting" fiasco with falsies, Glamour challenged her to embrace the trend once more. She wrote that she was relieved that the false lashes in Glamour's beauty closet looked real and she settled on Sugar Cosmetics Flirt False Lashes in Angel, $9. Click here to read the rest!

How to Get a Chrisette Michele Inspired Look from the Wendy Williams Show

Now, let's talk about Chrisette Michele's doll look. She had on hot pink eyeshadow, light pink blush and light pink/nude lips. Automatically I thought about NYX Cosmetics and the post that I did last year (which is now in draft). I asked who did you know that could all pink makeup and not look like a clown. Well, my answer now is Chrisette Michele.

Ok, please don't hate me. Told y'all I had a girl crush!

If it weren't for a reader contacting me thru Twitter about the hot pink eyeshadow Chrisette Michele was wearing on the Wendy Williams show yesterday, I probably wouldn't have done another "Get the Look" feature starring @ChrisetteM (Chrisette Michele's Twitter handle). JJ Jacobucci did her makeup and she was styled by June Ambrose.

I was watching the footage of Michele belting out "What You Do" on The Wendy Williams show.  It's funny because I caught myself singing it in the shower along with "Good Girl" (which is definitely a song that would be on the soundtrack of my life). But seriously, I loved everything - from the hair down to her shoes! So it wouldn't really hurt to do another spread on her, right?
