Valentine's Day 2011 Outfit Idea: Chanel Iman in Herve Leger and Christian Louboutin

Chanel Iman in Herve Leger and Christian Louboutin

Talk about ravishing in red! Chanel Iman slayed the competition in a lipstick red Herve Leger Novelty Essentials dress and a pair of Christian Louboutin Pigalili pumps in Toronto, Canada. She was there to promote the company's Valentine Day sale at the Eaton Centre. I wonder what type of bra she's wearing underneath those bandages?

Devil in a tight dress, girl you a killer.

Vixen, Interrupted: Kush Magazine, Back to College, Brush Talk & BeautyTicket

Enough with the advertisements and promotions...let's get down to the good stuff!

Today, I received an email from Kush Magazine, which is a publication for women of color in the United Kingdom. I'm the new resident writer for their Beauty Buzz section! It seems so surreal to say that but it's true. This is the first offer that I've received that's actually gone through. I was supposed to write for the beauty section for a local newspaper but that is still in progress.

Next, on August 24th, I'll be attending St. Philip's College in San Antonio. I recently changed my major from pre-nursing to journalism. This will be the first I've stepped into a classroom since high school. For my first and second semesters, I took classes online at Kansas City Kansas Community College. Now, for my third semester, I have four subjects that are in a classroom setting and one online. One of the Airmen from my unit is in my class. I'm excited but at the same time I am nervous as hell. I have Speech this semester and when I'm nervous, talking isn't one of my strengths. We'll see how that goes.

Recently, Tia Lanell and I have teamed up for Brush Talk here on Blaq Vixen Beauty. I don't talk too much about my brush collection but since I'm planning to buy some more soon, I'd figured now would be a good time. The latest brushes I bought were back in April, when I was in Mississippi for TDY. I bought the Face Powder Brush with Folding Mini Brush from Elizabeth Arden as well as their 5-Piece Brush Essentials Set. I didn't bring my ecoTOOLS brush set because I didn't think that I was going to buy any makeup. Since I'm not a morning person, I didn't think that I would be waking up early to apply makeup. I should've known better because I ended up buying makeup! I bought a two lip glosses, six brushes and a foundation. That's not too bad, right? :) Anyway, the first installment is in draft. Stay tuned for that! We'll be talking about brushes that we own, have tried and our favorites. We will also spill what we use to clean our brushes. Just today, Tia told me that she was on a beauty forum when she read that one member uses extra virgin olive oil (yes, the type that you get from the grocery store) to clean her brushes! I knew extra virgin olive oil was good for the hair but didn't know that it was great for cleaning brushes. I hope to have it up either today or next week. But I'm shooting for today though.

Yesterday, I was contacted by BeautyTicket to do a giveaway here on Blaq Vixen Beauty. Now, before, I was swearing off of giveaways for a while, since my last handful of giveaways proved to be a hassle. However, I've changed my mind! For my latest giveaway, I'm giving away a 8-Piece Living Water Spa Set from Borghese. Worth $189, you can snag this luxurious at-home spa set for $49.99 for a savings of $139.01! You can save even more by using my special coupon code for all my lovely blaq vixens! This giveaway starts on Monday so don't forget to stop by and enter your name for a chance to win! For those of you who won my Suave giveaway, trust, I haven't forgotten about you!

Lastly, I volunteered to do a guest beauty review on A Girl's Gotta Spa! I'll be reviewing Freeman's Bare Foot Peppermint and Plum Creamy Pumice Foot Scrub. This isn't the only scent available, as I recently learned. If Peppermint & Plum doesn't sound appealing, you can choose from Iced Teaberry and Mint or Lemon and Sage.  Although it's not as popular as Olay Thermal Pedicure, it is formulated for us who stay up on our foot game. If you have minimal dry skin on your heels and between your toes, you'll benefit from this. If you need something heavy duty, please get the Thermal Pedicure! However, Freeman also has a self-warming version of this product if you're interested. You know, I am instantly reminded of what happened when I went shopping with my best friend. We were at Wal-Mart in the bath aisle. I told her how much I loved Olay Thermal Pedicure and how much I loved the warming sensation. When she saw that it cost about $8, she instantly grabbed the Freeman version. She told me, "$8?! I don't have money like that!" How ironic, when she can easily drop $100+ on sexy lingerie at Victoria's Secret! Let me stop!

Promotions: Get a Free, Fierce and Fab Makeover with Christian Siriano

Damn...why does it seem like the best events always happen in The Big Apple? I mean, can someone stop by San Antonio once a while? If so, that would be the official reawakening of my social life!

Anyway, if I had the pleasure of flying to NYC this weekend, I'd make my way to the Victoria's Secret at Herald Square this Saturday, August 15th to help celebrate the launch of Christian Siriano's limited edition makeup collection.  And while I'm there, I'll also help celebrate the revamping of Victoria's Secret Very Sexy collection. This would be right after I get my free, personalized makeover of course!

If you live in New York or you're planning to be there before Saturday, make your way to 1328 Broadway at 34th Street. But don't forget to call (866) 842-8674 to book your appointment! How nice it would be to try the Boho Chicster look I saw in the September issue of Essence. Mikki Taylor featured Christian Siriano's Silky Eyeshadow in Gilded Fierce for this particular look. Since it is a shimmery shadow in an unexpected hue it's perfect for the evening.

Promotions: Christian Siriano for Victoria's Secret

Talking about Christian Siriano's makeup line for Victoria's Secret feels a bit like coming home, since my review on their Beauty Rush Lip Glosses was one of the first few posts I published here on Blaq Vixen Beauty. Then, this past Monday, while waiting at the Clinique counter, I found myself checking out the newest Victoria's Secret additions. I read the Victoria's Secret fashion show (VSFS 09) is taking place in New York the first time in four years today. I wonder if we'll see Neomie Lenoir, Sessilee Lopez, and Emanuela de Paula at the show this year? Your thoughts?

What's your secret?

How to Get Solange's Makeup Look at the Carol's Daughter's Spokesbeauty Event

Solange at the Carol's Daughter's Spokesbeauty and Monoi Repairing Collection LaunchWhen Solange was asked by MTV Style the cheapest thing she copped recently, Solange confessed, "I don't know if this would be considered cheap, but this suit, which everyone keeps asking me if it's some high-end designer, is a $150 suit from Mango. It's amazing. It's not the cheapest thing, but it’s definitely reasonable!"

Rip the Runway 2010: Tai Beauchamp Talks Body by Victoria, Alesha Renee for CoverGirl

Let's talk about makeup and bras. Honestly, the only other reason why I tuned in was for the beauty tips. I wasn't expecting to see Tai Beauchamp (@taibeau) talk about Body by Victoria but I'm glad that she did. It was one of the highlights of the show. She reminds us why Body of Victoria should be a staple in our wardrobe:
Chanel Iman for Body by Victoria on BlaqVixenBeauty.com
"The perfect outfit needs an even better base and the wireless by Victoria is just that - the perfect fit. It's lightweight, it's supportive, there's no wires, there's no tugging, and no embarrassing lines. Smooth, sleek and sexy but better yet, doesn't even feel like it's there. From the catwalk to your closet, Body by Victoria has got you covered."

Then of course, Alesha Renee talked about the products from the CoverGirl Beauty Bar, like the LashBlast Length Mascara, Smoky Shadow Blast Shadow Stick in Onyx Smoke, Shine Blast Lipgloss, and Queen Collection Compact Foundation.

Speaking of CoverGirl, they have a new LashBlast mascara titled LashBlast Fusion. Instead of delivering just length (like CoverGirl LashBlast Length) or just volume (like CoverGirl LashBlast), it delivers both. CoverGirl Global Creative Design Director Pat McGrath previewed LashBlast Fusion backstage at the Anna Sui show at F/W 2010 NYFW.

LashBlast Fusion isn't scheduled to hit the stores until April but of course, CoverGirl is having an exclusive online presale. Take advantage of free shipping with any of the e-tailers listed on the CoverGirl FB page from March 12th to April 5th.

Did you watch this portion of Rip the Runway? If so, what did you think?

The Vanity: Celebrity Makeup Artist Jackie Gomez Shares Her Top Products of 2009

Celebrity makeup artist Jackie Gomez (she does Beyonce's and Solange's makeup!) released her Top Products of 2009 list on Tweetphoto. I've only tried Korres Lip Butter in Jasmine as well as Plum and Victoria's Secret Lip Glosses so far but the BeautyBlender Sponge is high on my list for 2010. From what I read from Palacinka's exclusive interview ("Interview with Beyonce's Makeup Artist, Jackie Gomez"), Ms. Gomez always has the BeautyBlender Sponge in her personal makeup kit. Gosh. I just can't wait to buy this beloved beauty tool!

Summer Beauty with Celebrity Makeup Artist Ashunta Sheriff

L'Oreal HIP Jelly Balm in Savory, $9
L'Oreal HIP Jelly Balm in Delectable, $9
CoverGirl Queen Collection Lip Gloss in Carribean Coral, $5.19
"Go for a sheer red or coral gloss. Why not? It can pep up your mood!"
"Get glowing skin by simply spraying Thermale Avene' or Evian Spray after you finish [applying] makeup."
"Never leave home without mascara, lip gloss, lotion and a great fragrance. You will feel more polished."

I thought it would be fun to create a spread with Ashunta Sheriff beauty tips (via Twitter). The recommendations are mine except for the L'Oreal HIP Jelly Balms. Amber from Brown Bombshell Beauty suggested those!
