You Can Get With This or You Can Get With That: The Beauty Preferences Edition

Singer Having Makeup AppliedI've forgotten how fun it is to participate in a beauty tag...even if I tend to overthink my answers! The stunning Khadine from Cosmetic Passion recently tagged me on her blog in a beauty preference meme in which I have to choose one beauty product in a series of questions:

[blush] or [bronzer]?

Sure, I love using bronzer as blush, eyeshadow and as a highlight, but nothing beats a gorgeous, ethereal glow you can get with a coral-, orange- or peach-hued blush. My favorites:

[lipstick] or [lip gloss]?

Purple lipstick please! But I think I might be wearing a host of fun lip tattoos this fall just because I hear they stay on forever with minimal retouching. My favorites:

[eyeliner] or [mascara]?

I know winged eyeliner and its variations is hot right now but give me a great mascara to define my eyes. Too much work to get the perfect cat eye nowadays! My favorites:

[foundation] or [concealer]?

Hands down, I have to choose foundation---especially a cream foundation that can double as a concealer. My favorites: In progress.

[neutral eyeshadow] or [colored eyeshadow]?

I love a nice wash of a metallic, neutral eyeshadow just because I'm too lazy to blend colored eyeshadow and make it look presentable. Besides, metallic eyeshadow is a great Fall trend! See below!

[loose eyeshadow] or [pressed eyeshadow]?

I hate loose shadow (too messy) but it doesn't stop me from using the loose eyeshadows that I have. I love pressed eyeshadows in palettes though...granted that I don't break them! [laughs] My favorites:

[brushes] or [sponges]?

Believe it or not, I prefer using my BeautyBlender over my makeup brushes. I know there are people out there who think the BeautyBlender is nothing special but I have to disagree. First off, you're supposed to use it to stipple foundation, blush, etc. on the skin. If you use it like a regular sponge, you'll be disappointed. I love it because the technique is so artistic to me. My favorites:

Which ones would you choose?

Johnson's Blog For Beauty Challenge: Layer Johnson's Baby Oil Gel Over Shimmering Sunscreen

Bronzed Vixens

Happy first day of summer to all of you!!

If you liked the Johnson's Baby Powder as a body veil tip, maybe you'll love this next tip: layer Johnson's Baby Oil Gel over sunscreen. This is actually a Sports Illustrated (SI) Swimsuit Issue Beauty Secret I remembered reading on the InStyle website. Makeup artist Tracy Murphy says she reaches for the Johnson's Baby Oil Gel because "it's super shiny, repels water and looks absolutely stunning in pictures."

Who knew Johnson's Baby Oil Gel could be glamorous?!

Gabrielle Union to Launch a New Skin Care Line for Women of Color?

Gabrielle Union for Neutrogena

From Brown Bombshell Beauty---I was initially confused when I read Gabrielle Union was launching a new skin care line for women of color on Twitter. Union has been a Neutrogena spokesperson since 2004. Among the many commercials she's done for Neutrogena, her Visibly Even commerical stands out because I thought it was specifically geared toward women of color. Just now, I logged on the website and noticed that the only product available for the Visibly Even line is the Daily Moisturizer SPF 30. Is the Visibly Even line being phased out to make room for this new collection exclusively for women of color? This might be the case!

I also checked out the Neutrogena fan page - there hasn't been an announcement confirming or denying these new products. When they do, I'll update this post. :)

Are you excited or skeptical? The announcement seemed to come out of nowhere from Women's Wear Daily (WWD) - well, not exactly since it was revealed after Gabrielle Union was spotted with Mena Suvari at Christian Siriano's show this past fashion week.

Beauty and the Blog: Tidal Labs' Neutrogena UltraSheer Sunblock Campaign

This opportunity from the newly launched Tidal Labs couldn't have come at a better time with summer around the corner. Similar to BzzAgent and SheSpeaks, Tidal Labs was created to "empower companies to reach the most influential users online, and across social networks." To my surprise, I was tapped twice for their first campaign: the Neutrogena UltraSheer Liquid Daily Sunblock SPF 70 opportunity (a $30 value).

As I was told, Tidal Labs have teamed with Neutrogena to give away a thousand samples to bloggers and influential individuals in social media. In order to be considered as a reviewer, you have to take a survey. If chosen, you have to use your UltraSheer as directed for at least 4 weeks and submit two reviews, pictures or videos.

Tidal Labs is looking for people who meet the following criteria:

>>Between the ages 25-49

>>Have at least 300+ Facebook friends

>>Have at least 25+ Twitter followers

>>Doesn't spend time tanning  (either in a salon or intentionally out in the sun without sunblock/sunscreen)

If you have a blog, they'll ask for the blog URL and how many readers you have. Since UltraSheer Liquid "absorbs instantly into the skin and wears beautifully under makeup," there was a question in the survey about how often do you wear makeup. Since starting my skin regimens, I've shied away from foundation, tinted moisturizer and even concealer. I'll probably wear tinted moisturizer with this sunscreen to see if it can actually be worn with makeup.

So I urge you to take advantage of this wonderful opportunity so that you can "frost yourself" with sunscreen all summer long! By the way, if you're a blogger, you might want to sign up to become a publisher.

How to Get a Chrisette Michele Inspired Look from the Wendy Williams Show

Now, let's talk about Chrisette Michele's doll look. She had on hot pink eyeshadow, light pink blush and light pink/nude lips. Automatically I thought about NYX Cosmetics and the post that I did last year (which is now in draft). I asked who did you know that could all pink makeup and not look like a clown. Well, my answer now is Chrisette Michele.

Ok, please don't hate me. Told y'all I had a girl crush!

If it weren't for a reader contacting me thru Twitter about the hot pink eyeshadow Chrisette Michele was wearing on the Wendy Williams show yesterday, I probably wouldn't have done another "Get the Look" feature starring @ChrisetteM (Chrisette Michele's Twitter handle). JJ Jacobucci did her makeup and she was styled by June Ambrose.

I was watching the footage of Michele belting out "What You Do" on The Wendy Williams show.  It's funny because I caught myself singing it in the shower along with "Good Girl" (which is definitely a song that would be on the soundtrack of my life). But seriously, I loved everything - from the hair down to her shoes! So it wouldn't really hurt to do another spread on her, right?
