Olivia Pope hair is what everyone secretly wants. She may not be a saint, but she has hair that “looks like Jesus pressed it.” Her lush halo of curls is cool as her shade of pink lipstick. For months, we wondered how to get Olivia Pope hair. Then Linda Villalobos, hairstylist for Kerry Washington on Scandal, finally joined Twitter. Tweeting from @layersofbeauty, here is what the hair pro shared with us:

Olivia Pope Hair: The Back Story

The whole process takes 40 minutes to an hour. Kerry’s hair is prepped with a heat protectant. Sometimes, she wears clip-ons for depth and more bounce. If you look closely, some of the clip-ins vary in color.  Villalobos says Kerry’s natural hair is easy to straighten with low heat. Surprise! Our girl does not have a relaxer! But I think we all knew that after “Spies Like Us” aired. “I’ve watched you press your hair.” 

Olivia Pope Hair: The Beauty of a Blowout

While filming Django, Kerry said she needed “lipstick, mascara, and a blowout” to feel like Olivia Pope again. You can get her famous blowout with three steps.

First, Linda curls Washington’s hair. Depending on the style, she uses Marcel pro curling irons. Other times, a plain flat iron does the job. Next, to create Pope’s distinct style, she pin-curls Washington’s hair. Finally, she brushes the curls for bounce and volume. The coils are set with Paul Mitchell Super Clean Spray.

Side note: I grew up with Paul Mitchell hair products. My mom was a huge Paul Mitchell fan. After every salon visit, she would come home with big, bouncy hair. Long live the blowout!

For glossy strands, she uses clear cellophane and Rene Furterer Fioravanti. She did not name the exact product, but I think Linda uses the Clarify and Shine Rinse. In season two, Olivia wears sleeker hair with a “slight bump for body and fullness.” When her hair is straight, the hair vet uses Rene Furterer Myrrhea Anti Frizz No Rinse Silkening Fluid to keep it smooth.

Scandal may be on break, but I have more Beauty of Scandal tips. Today is about Olivia Pope nails! As I wrote before, Scandal’s nail guru Lisa Wong tweets as @lisaiscreative. The CND spokeswoman shared the scoop about Liv’s new nails:

Kerry arrived at the Oscars with special Olivia Pope nails. Her tips glowed with a lovely gold and pearl finish. Lisa Wong, nail stylist for the show, shared the how to behind Liv’s nude nails.

Washington wears a thin coat of  Cocoa as a base. A top coat of Negligee completes the look. Wong uses thin, even coats of color.

Solessence says, “Negligee over any Shellac color is an easy way to add a bit of dimension, smooth out imperfections and create a bit of opalescence.” We saw a closeup of Olivia’s nails in “Happy Birthday, Mr. President.”

New Olivia Pope Nails: CND Shellac in Romantique over CND Shellac in Cocoa

As seen in “Top of the Hour,” Olivia goes for a more girly shade to complement her nude nails. Cocoa has been described as an “updated neutral” by Solessence nail pro Hillary Fry.

“Romantique is the option for someone who [wants] a creme-based color where the nail won’t be seen. It is very feminine with a bit of bold,” says Fry. This description of the pink-white hue is perfect for Pope, an edgy lady.

Actually Beauty.com still has a few left in stock.  She usually wears this color with “a bit of gloss.” Another option if you really want this shade is to use Three Custom Color’s Custom Blending service. Sadly, Tarte’s Champagne Brunch is not in Three Custom Color’s database.

Another Pope pick is Chanel Levres Scintillantes Brillant Extreme Glossimer in Wild Rose. I’ve passed up the Chanel counter at my nearest Nordstrom countless times, but never stopped to see if they had Wild Rose in stock.

Olivia Pope Pink Lipstick: Bobbi Brown Carnation

Bobbi Brown Lip Color in Carnation is a tricky color to pull off but Olivia wears it well. I ventured to the Bobbi Brown counter for the first time in search of this color. It requires precision as it is a bright, peachy-pink color. I would fill in my lips with a nude lip liner and apply Carnation straight from the tube. Then I would blend both my nude lip liner and Carnation until I’ve successfully created the perfect shade for me.
