I knew I should've picked up the April issue of Essence yesterday! In their "Shade Shift" story, Zoya Nail Polish in Gemma was one of the "Colors of Success" that Essence recommended. It's shades like this that give neutral palettes a twist. This was the same shade that Glamour beauty editor Baze Mpinja tweeted about in February. "Day 2 and no chips," she said.
Last month, I had the pleasure of being invited to partake in a survey from Essence Insiders. Here were the two proposed April 2011 covers with the fabulous Jennifer Hudson. I had to choose which cover appealed to me the most:
Yesterday I finally picked up the March 2011 issue of Essence Magazine (with Angela Bassett on the cover). I was looking forward to a couple of features in this particular issue - the Essence 2011 Beauty Awards, Angela Bassett's "Unstoppable" and of course, Amber Riley's "She's Every Woman" photoshoot. I shot celebrity makeup artist Saisha Beecham an email after she revealed that she did Riley's makeup on Facebook.
For a moment, I honestly didn't think I would get this exclusive but Saisha came through last night. I am totally grateful that she emailed me back and I'm able to share this information with you all! She used all NARS Cosmetics. You can check out her profile on the Tamu Artist Agency website. For even more information, check out her website, her Facebook and Twitter.
I've been really feeling Amber Riley lately - and her photoshoot by famed photographer Derek Blanks in Essence Magazine's "Black Women in Hollywood" Issue was so fabulous (but where are her knees?) that it inspired this post. If you have a similar figure, this sequin Silver Coin Dress ($450 for sizes 0-8, $525 for sizes 8-12) by LaQuan Smith will look just as tantalizing on you as it does on Amber. I think the strappy byzantine heels are a nice touch too - I'm happy that they didn't go with basic black! If you want to order this dress, contact Kelly.
Editor's Note: No further details have been mentioned on this matter recently. Thank you!
23 February 2011: Monica tweeted that she was headed to the Orly Beauty offices yesterday. Later on, she confirmed that her new polish line will be available July 2011. "Ladies, Orly gave me their word," she said.
29 January 2011: Monica said the collection will be available in July as well as her version of Orly's Bonder Base Coat. She said of this product, "Here's the key to your polish lasting longer." It helps prevent your manicures from chipping. Not sure if she is planning to add more nail treatments such as this one but of course, I wll update when I do.
Mary J. Blige wore Zoya Nail Polish in Freja, a smoky metallic gunmetal with subtle silver sparkle. Celebrity manicurist Lisa Logan did her nails. Lisa Logan also did Blige's nails for her Essence magazine photoshoot; Blige wore Zoya Nail Polish in Ibiza, a gleaming sapphire blue with subtle shimmer.
