Last season, I yearned to know what products the Empire makeup department used on their leading ladies. I was absolutely famished for beauty tidbits so I hit up IMDB to see who was working in Empire‘s makeup department. I briefly exchanged tweets with the show’s chief makeup artist Beverly Jo Pryor (who was so warm and generous) for a time, asking what shades Taraji wore in certain scenes and with particular outfits. Unfortunately, there was not much she could divulge but I understood.
Anika Calhoun (Grace Gealey) wears MAC Pro Longwear Lustre Lipcolour in ALL Nighter in Empire Season 1, Episode 4 “False Imposition”. Also seen here: Elizabeth & James Damon Sheath Dress (similar).
As for Anika, Grace Gealey replied to me and another fan on the ‘Gram to say her makeup artist Jessica Williams used MAC Pro Longwear Lustre Lipcolour in ALL Nighter on her in the episode “False Imposition.”
Did you know? You can wear MAC Lipstick in Ruby Woo or Kryolan High Gloss Brilliant Lip Shine in Catwalk to get Anika’s signature red lips.
However, The Cut had all the behind-the-scenes tea. Both Pryor and Empire‘s lead hairstylist Melissa Forney detailed their routines, regimens and processes for the cast.
Is Fox’s new hit show “Gotham” a must-see for you on Monday nights at 8/7c? If not, here’s a reason to watch: Jada Pinkett Smith. As Gotham’s feisty and fashion-forward crime lord Fish Mooney, Pinkett-Smith is utterly delicious. She satisfies my desires for all things dark and dangerous. And of course, as I am in love with her wardrobe! According to costume designer Lisa Padovani, Jada’s leather and metallic dress as “80’s Versace/Mugler inspired.”
Three parts Stephanie “Queenie” St. Clair, Griselda Blanco and Norma Desmond, I love that Jada on this show. I love that she surrendered to her shadow in this delicious role. While I’ve been hooked since the pilot premiered on September 22, it was only after episode 3 (“The Balloonman”) aired that I knew I had to finally dedicate a post to the gorgeous gangster. Here is how to get her signature makeup look by Gotham makeup department head John Perkins:
I came across this image of model Madisin Bradley in my Instagram feed (from Renny Vasquez), and I just had to bless this post with her magnificence! She is wearing Black Opal Beauty Foundation, Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Wiz and Flutter Lashes (style unknown). You can get her exact vamp stamp with MAC Lip Liner in Nightmoth and NARS Velvet Matte Lip Pencil in Train Bleu. #shedidthat
Grazia Daily preached glam gospel when they said “those with darker skin should look out for lipsticks with a chocolate base which is richer and more warming than bluer-based lipsticks.” Let’s face it: the vampy lip is one of fall’s finest beauty trends for brown skin. Now I want to help you start your sultry stash this season!
It is my new obsession after I missed out on Rihanna’s overhyped Talk That Talk. This shade was the most infamous lip color in the RiRi Hearts MAC Fall collection besides RiRi Woo. Celebrity makeup artist Theresa Francine recommended picking up Bobbi Brown Creamy Matte Lip Color in Port if you missed out on Talk That Talk.
With lips as dark as night, many a beauty enthusiast said they felt duped (pun intended) by the limited edition lipstick. And with that, a stream of new additions flooded Google Images, each identifying comparable, suitable contenders from different brands in various finishes and price points. As for me, I quickly got over my angst and stalked many celebrity makeup artists’ Instagram feeds. And now I’m happy to share my results with you!
