Joan Smalls by Sir John: Estee Lauder

Joan Smalls has done it again: served up another covetable lip for the kiddies.  Of course, Sir John custom-blended this beauty just for the Queen since it was her idea. Sir John recounted the daring decision to The Coveteur:

She’s a little tanned right now, so we wanted to play up a glowing radiance, post-sun look, but the purple lip was Joan’s idea. For me, it was really about finding the texture, because she didn’t want anything glossy. We mixed colors together and got really creative. She saw the lip on Instagram. She follows beauty addicts and we compared makeup war stories and found the perfect purple that wasn’t too burgundy and wasn’t too, you know, cheap-looking.

While the article did not give details about the winning combination used, based on a comment I saw on Sir John’s Instagram, I ventured onto Fashionista.com. “Navy eyeliner mixed with pink and magenta lipstick,” was the how-to one-liner. Since Smalls has a beauty contract with Estee Lauder, he was forbidden to mention any competitor’s products.

Decoded it simply means that we can recreate this lip with Automatic Eye Pencil Duo in Hyacinth Sky, Pure Color Envy Sculpting Lipsticks in Infamous and Insolent Plum. You can try it by filling in your lips with Hyacinth Sky. Once you’ve custom blended Tumultuous Pink and Insolent Plum on the back of your hand (for warmth), apply it evenly to your lips. For eyeshadow, Sir John used Estee Lauder Pure Color Stay On Shadow Paint in Halo. Voila!

Or if you’re looking for an option “closer to home,” Magnolia Makeup shared this great “get the look” with their Velour Galore in Midnight Violet:
