As you might imagine, winterizing acne-scarred and hyperpigmented skin is challenging. After many trials – which all failed unfortunately – I decided to stick to the basics: cleanser, toner, moisturizer and sunscreen. My skin regimen doesn’t even include serums, eye creams nor a night treatment! I’ve been so hesitant about adding new products to my regimen as I felt the simpler my regimen, the less likely I would cause more damage to my skin.

Yet, my inner turmoil with my skin did not prevent me from testing out three products from the DNAEGF Renewal skin care line – DNA Intensive Renewal, DNA Defense SPF 30+ and DNA Night Renewal, all sent by the brand’s PR.

DNA INTENSIVE RENEWAL is a lightweight, day and nighttime lotion formula that features a liposome delivery system while targeting the skin’s natural DNA repair processes and infusing skin with optimal hydration to counter the effects of aging. $125

DNA DEFENSE SPF 50+ (new product) is a fast-absorbing, non greasy lotion that protects skin against harmful UVA and UVB rays. It delivers a sheer (non-whitening) high-performance dispersion of micro-fine zinc to reflect and scatter harmful UV light. $45

DNA NIGHT RENEWAL is a rich, nighttime lotion with an advanced liposome delivery system to maximize cell repair during the body’s sleep cycle to recover skin’s youth. $130

I adore high-performance skin care products in stable packaging and the DNAEGF Renewal line fits this description perfectly. EGF stands for Epidermal Growth Factor. Each product that I tested from this line was sheer, seem to heal my extremely, dry flaking brown skin and help shield it from further environmental damage.

However, as a college student who hates buying retail (above a certain price) and actually prefers specific skin care products found at most drugstores (Cetaphil, Neutrogena and Dickinson’s, anyone?), I am totally hesitant about recommending these products. This is not to say that they aren’t worth the spurge (if you can truly afford to without ramifications) but I wish the brand provided samples at reasonable prices so you can try before you buy.

While I enjoyed using all three of the products from this line, it is the DNA Defense SPF 30+ that stole the show for me. This is one of the few sunscreens that I’ve grown to love as it is “cosmetically elegant.” Upon application, it melts into my brown skin without imparting an unflattering, lavender, greasy tint. I love how I can reapply every two hours and not worry about this lightweight sunscreen balling up and rolling off in flakes.

Overall, if there’s one product you need to try from the DNAEGF line, it’s definitely the sunscreen. Sunscreen should be one of the major components of your skin care regimen anyway so I would recommend you buy the DNA Defense SPF 30+ and see how it performs for your brown skin. Then you can decide if you want to buy the rest of the line.
