Two-time Emmy Award-winning celebrity hairstylist Kiyah Wright graced the 65th bi-annual Bronner Bros International Hair Show this weekend. The Clairol Professional colorist mingled with stylists, barbers and hair enthusiasts about the industry’s hottest trends and newest hair techniques. This year, Wright observed hair show attendees and reported on the top three hair trends from the show:

Bonner Bros Hair Show Top Trends: Bright, Bold and Vibrant like Ciara, Kelis and Jordan Sparks

Bright, Bold and VibrantThree trends that stood out color-wise were color blocking, ombre and chunky highlights as most of the attendees shied away from plain hair color. Blondes and gold ruled the show and several brave show attendees dabbled in multicolored ‘dos.

Tress tips: To get a funky, vibrant hue, use Clairol Professional Jazzing which is temporary, sheer hair color. Available in 18 shades ranging from Jet Grape to Fuchsia Plum, it provides a punch of color for the most vivid styles. Its ammonia- and peroxide-free formula is also damage-free.

If you’re on a budget, opt for an ombre style as it is more affordable to upkeep! Celebrity hairstylist R. Obrien says, “Choose  shades that will compliment your skin tone as well as wardrobe options. For a dark chocolate beauty: deep reds, coppers, and cool ash make for beautiful options. For the caramel-coated lovely: rich browns, coppers, possibly even violets (depending on career and character). For the fair maiden: ash tones, subdued blondes, golden caramel tones will add warmth to her olive skin.” (source)

Bonner Bros Hair Show Top Trends: Au Naturale like Chrisette Michele, Ledisi and Macy Gray

Au Naturale in Brilliant and Vivacious Hues

Natural hair is the biggest hair revolution of 2012! Women are revamping their hair regimens. They’re embracing their kinks, curls, coils and waves without harsh chemicals or treatments. Additionally, they’re experimenting with brilliant, sexy and eclectic hair colors for their textured crowns.

Tress tip: For healthy, natural hair, it’s all about maintenance. Find a good hydrating shampoo (especially if wearing hair color), a leave-in conditioner and a curl cream to tame unruly curls. These tools with help to soften and detangle natural hair and to make it more manageable.

Bonner Bros Hair Show Top Trends: Extensions/Weaves like Gabrielle Union, Sanaa Lathan and Raven-Symone

Extensions for Transitionals

Women are also experimenting with extensions to switch it up and preserve their natural hair through protective styling. Extensions and weaves allow the wearer to experiment with different styles and textures without stress or damage. Just remember to clean and deep condition your hair underneath.

Tress tip: Make sure the extensions are high quality and can withstand both heat and color. This will allow for unlimited experimentation sans damage!
