Recently, the incomparable Angela Bassett sat down with “the industry’s beauty edit” Violet Grey to slay in lingerie (which was surprisingly not credited in the feature) while revealing her beauty secrets and the art of working the red carpet.
Last year, she completely revitalized my Wednesday nights through her portrayal of Marie Laveau on American Horror Story: Coven. I did not tune in for anyone else as she ethered my soul every time she was on-screen. Coupled with her endless Senegalese twists and commanding style, I was not worthy. I can’t wait for the FX anthology series to return this October for her to steal the show again in American Horror Story: Freakshow. She returns as Desiree Dupree, a three-breasted black woman in an interracial union in 1950’s Jupiter, Florida. See a shot of her below from the official trailer:
Dammit, isn’t she flawless? Here are some brief beauty bits Bassett divulged to Violet Grey:
“The foundation is Kevyn Aucoin; I like that. And I have to use the beautyblender—I fell in love as soon as I tried. You don’t see where the makeup starts and ends.” (Note: Bassett wore Kevyn Aucoin The Sensual Skin Enhancer in SX13 & SX15 at this year’s Emmys. Go-to red lipstick?
First product you apply in the morning, and the last product you apply at night?
“I use GrandeLASH-MD in the morning and Dr. Lancer Lash at night; they’ve really helped my lashes grow. I had individual lashes put on last year, and when you take them off you feel like you have snaggle lash.”
For the Dr. Lancer blog, she shared more of her favorites from the esteemed brand, who swears “she doesn’t look a day over 30” to them:
“I love the Polish,” says Bassett. “A quick way to rid the face of dead skin cells and reveal the fresh complexion beneath! And the cleanser is delightful. You need such a little amount but feel as if you’ve rinsed away everything you don’t need without stripping the moisture. Smells clean and fresh on top of it.”
“Speaking of moisture,” she goes on to say, “the daily one feels like a treat for your pores along with the Vitamin C and the evening anti-aging formula. I like that they do not leave me oily or greasy.”
Stay tuned! I am sure we’ll learn more of Angela Bassett’s beauty and skin care secrets soon enough. In the meantime, which of these products have you used and loved?
