Sponsored Post: Lexus Luxury Awaits x Chris Rock's "Good Hair"

Editor's Note: Since Blaq Vixen Beauty has recently partnered with Strictly Fab and Lexus, this is first of many sponsored posts from the Lexus Luxury Awaits campaign. Unfortunately, I haven't had the pleasure of seeing "Good Hair" but I'm just waiting until I get an invitation to see this documentary in San Antonio. Here's me crossing my fingers and toes!

The Lexus Luxury Awaits campaigned sponsored a recent screening of Chris Rock's new documentary "Good Hair" at the Regal Theater in Atlanta, GA on Thursday, September 24, 2009. The stars came out to shine and rule the the red carpet to view the award-winning film and support Chris Rock.

The concept of the 2009 Sundance Festival award winning film developed after Rock's young young daughter Lola came inside from playing one day and asked him, "Daddy, why don't I have good hair?" It delves into how the idea of good hair was created and perpetuated throughout the African American community and how that notion has funded a multimillion dollar worldwide industry.

Rock begins by examining the Bronner Brothers hair show phenomenon where he discovers an entire underworld of hair shows and the stylists who complete for the crowning glory. He also visits barber shops, beauty salons, chemical relaxer factories, and even travels to the international weave mecca: India.

From celebrity commentaries from notables such as Maya Angelou, Rev. Al Sharpton, Nia Long, Ice-T, Salt N Pepa, and Kerry Washington to the definitions offered by regular salon patrons, Rock aims to offer a holistic view of the definition of "good" hair. He even explores how African American hair care impacts activities (most notably swimming and exercise), pocketbooks, sexual relationships, and self-esteem.

I can't wait to see this movie. Did you like it? Was it good? Funny? When I was in H.S., I used a hot comb and had extensions when you were considered to be "bald headed" if you even went that route. But never had chemicals. I'm raising two girls and I am concerned about the whole hair thing.

Hey BSB,

Unfortunately. I've had to turn down the two invites I did receive to see "Good Hair." If only I live in New York! I'm actually thinking about getting some pieces sewn in because I'm taking a trip soon and I really don't want to deal with my hair. I'm also thinking about alternative methods to chemical straightening. I would actually hot comb my hair but I know that I can't since I'm relaxed. Sad
