For the Little Ones: Sofn'free N'Pretty Hair Care Line

I'd like to introduce my goddaughter, Jaivionne. I call her "Snookums." This is one of the few times that she smiles at me...other times, she just looks at me like I'm crazy. But I still love her. :)
I decided to do this post because after reading Afrobella's "How NOT to Care For Your Child's Hair," I figured that I should start doing posts that showcase products made especially for your little blaq vixen's hair.
I myself do not have any kids and I dread the day that I'll have to decide whether or not to perm my daughter's hair. When I do learn how to do hair well, I doubt that I'll perm my child's hair though. I'm trying to get my hair as long as my mom's so I can pass along helpful tips to my own kids.
I'm not going to lie: I'm not good at doing hair, not even my own, so I'd rather take her to a skilled hairdresser. However, this is where Sofn'free N'Pretty come in. Not only does this brand promise "happier hair days," by creating products with olive and sunflower oil but they also provide tips on how to protect your daughter's hair before she goes swimming:
*Comb in a small amount of cream hair conditioner (like Sofn'free N'Pretty Cucumber Conditioner) and slip on a swimming cap before swimming. After swimming, simply rinse away the conditioner.
*Wash hair with swimmers's shampoo once every week to 10 days to remove chlorine and copper residue. Since swimmers' shampoo is not very conditioning, follow with a moisturizing shampoo (like Sofn'free N'Pretty Shea Butter Shampoo) and a leave-in conditioner.
* If your child is due to have her hair relaxed, follow step 2 for three to four days before relaxing her hair.
* Finally, recognize that chlorine and copper can make the hair as well as the skin dryer than normal, so apply a skin moisturizer after showering.
Even if your child isn't hitting the pool this August, the Sofn'free N'Pretty hair care line was developed to treat specific hair and scalp problems. If these products can reverse the damage caused by relaxer misuse, than surely the effects of traction alopecia and other hair conditions can be reversed as well. The little girl in the video (that Afrobella links to) seems to be suffering from traction alopecia because in certain screenshots, she is missing chunks of hair in the back and along her hairline in the front. I'm guessing this is because her "mom" has made it a habit to improperly care for her child's hair. And like numerous women said, if they had access to the internet, this mother could've easily educated herself on the best hair tools and products not only for her daughter's hair, but her hair as well!
Do you use this hair care line for your daughters? Thoughts?

Aw, your goddaughter is adorable. Thank you for this post, because I have two little girls, ages 2 and 4, and I don't know how to do hair for sh**. lol. I keep my hair very close, almost a Casear cut, because my hair is thinning and balding (from damage and genetics). Right now, my baby sitter cornrows or twists their hair.

I can do little pigtails, box braids, or twists with the help of mini ponytail holders. My oldest daughter has the thickest hair ever that sops up moisture, and it takes a lot of effort to soften & tangle her hair. I've used Sofn'Free n'Pretty once, and it worked well. Right now, I'm using Africa's Best Organic Olive Oil Moisturizng Lotion. It really softens and makes her hair easier to brush, especially my younger girl.

Oh, and just to add, I'm looking for a daily sheen spray or glosser to keep my girls' hair from looking dry. My oldest, Dew, is starting school in the Fall and I want to keep her looking nice each day. I just bought Dew her first satin sleep cap. Smiling

Before I cut my hair off, I used to do my own double strand twists. I did it for about ten years. I never had a perm. In high school, I just got my hair hot combed once a month. My mom was kind of against me getting a perm or relaxer although she had all that chemical crap in her through the years. (Why did she start locking her hair when I started high school and I had to be one of the few nappy edged hair line girls in my class?) Times are different though, I think, so I'm going to keep my girls hair natural until they're out of high school. Maybe when they start middle school, I'll send them to the Dominicans (that's what the beauty shops are called in NYC, I'm not being racist) to have them blow dry their hair straight.

(Obviously I have hair issues, thus my two very long posts. lol. I'm sorry, BVB.)

BVB, your Goddaughter is so cute! Luckily, I don't have to worry about hair care products for little girls since I have a little boy, but I'll certainly pass this information on to my sister who has a little girl. Smiling

@BrooklynShoeBabe: Wow....two comments from you on the same post? I'm doing a series of hair posts just for you! Don't apologize...I learned something new. Didn't know that they called the beauty shops there in NYC the Dominicians...and don't worry, I knew you weren't being racist! Thank you for the compliment...every time I see her, it's the highlight of my day Smiling

@tiltedhalo Thank you!
