FOTD: Maybelline Dream Matte Mousse Foundation in Caramel

02/17/2009 - 9:50PM · Posted by BlaqVixenBeauty

Inspired by Angela Bassett's and Faith Evans' makeup on the cover of Upscale magazine, I decided to try my hand at a smokey eye. I also decided to see if my Maybelline Dream Matte Mousse Foundation in Caramel would be suitable as a winter foundation.

Love this look?

*Received these products for editorial consideration from Artistry Cosmetics, CoverGirl, Pencil Me in Cosmetics, and T. LeClerc.

face. I prepped my face with Artistry Time Defiance Day Protect Creme with SPF 15* and Motives Foundation Primer*. Then I applied Maybelline Dream Matte Mousse Foundation in Caramel with my Revlon foundation brush. I whipped out my CoverGirl Queen Collection Natural Hue Minerals Bronzer in Light Bronze* to try my hand at "contouring"....ha! I still need practice so bear with me. I set my foundation with my Black Opal Invisible Oil Blocking Powder. I want to add that I could've applied the CoverGirl Queen Bronzer as a blush - you can too!

eyes. I used a variety of gray eyeshadows from my Coastal Scents 88 Piece Eyeshadow palette, including the lone gray eyeshadow (Graphic) from the Artistry Iconic Elegance Trend Colour Collection in Inspired*. Then I coated my eyelashes with Artisty Definitive Lash Mascara in Extreme Black*. The brush is so thin so I was able to coat each lash - both on the bottom and top.  Then I used CoverGirl LashBlast Luxe Shimmery Voluminizing Mascara in Black Cabernet* to my upper lashes. I lined my lower lash line with T. LeClerc Paris Eye Pencil in Granit*. I applied Pencil Me In Cosmetics Eye Accent Pencil in Jet Sparks* to my upper lash line. I also applied a bit of L'Oreal Lineur Intense Felt Tip Liquid Eyeliner to the inner 1/3 of my lash line.

lips. Lastly, I applied Artistry Lip Shine in Celestine* along with CoverGirl WetSlicks AmazeMint in Everything's Rosy* and Maybelline Shiny-Licious Gloss in Sugar Plum.

Aww, you're adorable. Do you wear glasses?I'm a MAC foundation user but I'm looking for an "in between" foundation. Basically if I don't plan on leaving the house and still want to play in makeup (or the repair man is coming by LOL) I don't want to waste the goods. However, I'm a sistha of a darker shade and I found it extremely hard to match my tone. For some strange SICK reason these manufacturers believe that all dark skin has a red or burgundy undertone. I happen to have a gold undertone. Wearing a lot of "drug store" foundations leaves me red...or gray. I look a hot mess! I'm willing to give this a try, though.

I agree w/ Amina the smokey eye looks great on you!! I will have to try your method for dream matte mousse. I have the exact same color and it looked a little ashy on me the first time I tried it.

You did a good job! The foundation looks good too. It works for you, I hated it, it made me look ashy.

@ Amber: Thank you! @ Amina: Thank you! I was so careful to blend so that it wouldn't look like I had two black eyes, lol!@ Dwana: Yes I wear glasses but I hope to get LASIK real soon! You know I really want to try MAC but I have to hit up North Star Mall here in Texas as they have a MAC and Sephora. One thing that I love about Maybelline Dream Matte Mousse Foundation is that it melts into my skin. Then I can built on coverage and blend everything together so that it looks as natural as possible. If you do decide to try this foundation, let me know how it works for you! :)@ MsBenz: It looked ashy on me the first time I used it a couple of months ago. I think I used either a sponge or my fingers to apply it so that may have been the case...the Revlon foundation brush was perfect though! @ Juvenescent: You have no idea how great it feels to "hear" you say that, Miss Queen of Blending!!
