Have you ever bought a product that you had a feeling that it couldn't (or wouldn't) do what it was advertised to do? Recently, I picked up the new Caress Evenly Gorgeous Exfoliating Body Wash, which is a part of Caress' new Skinwear collection. It contains burnt brown sugar, karite butter (shea butter), soybean oil, sunflower oil along with to help exfoliate and moisturize your skin for the Summer.
Now I can see why Kim Kardashian is smitten with this body wash ("It literally smells so good that you want to eat it!") as I was as well, even before I tried it out. You see, out of all the body washes at the drugstore, I believe Caress makes the best ones. Sure, Tone is a close second - and I do mean close - but I've been hooked on Caress for a while.
I loved just about everything: how big the bottle was, how it smelled like caramel and chocolate, how well it lathered and exfoliated my skin. Every time I used it, it was a wonderful epilogue to a vigorous day of planning, editing, writing and engaging in social media!
However, I was patiently waiting for Evenly Gorgeous to pick up where my Ambi Soft and Even Skin Enhancing Moisture Cream left off but it never came. I was hoping that this body wash would have lightened my knees and the several dark spots that I have.
So I can conclude that if you have very light hyperpigmentation, you might have better results with this body wash. If you have medium to very dark hyperpigmentation, don't hold your breath because this body wash will not deliver on evening your skin tone.
I know you might be wondering why I am complaining about this body wash when I had a hunch that it wasn't going to live up to its claims yet I shelled out $4 for it, right? Well, it's the principle of the matter. Don't advertise your product as the key to even-toned, gorgeous skin when there aren't any ingredients present to actually combat hyperpigmentation. For example, if Caress really wanted to, they could've added kojic acid, vitamin E, or even hydroquinone that actually helps with uneven skin tone.
However, adding the burnt brown sugar, karite butter (shea butter), soybean oil, sunflower oil was a step in the right direction! However, like Tiffany Taylor (msesthy) said, "That is how they get you...the product should contain some active ingredients to penetrate. Otherwise, it just washes off." Also, see her response in the comments.
I would have never thought Caress would so blatantly engage in false advertising but maybe I am being too harsh. I just wanted this to be the missing link between me and truly beautiful skin. I even have a dress similar to the one on the bottle! It wasn't like I was expecting this to give me skin like Meagan Good but still, I feel so let down by Caress this time.
What do you think? Do I have a reason to be upset? Have you tried this? Your thoughts?

I totally agree with you- unlikely that this body wash will do anything temporarily or
permanently to even skin tone. Have you tried Olay Tone Enriching Ribbons Body Wash? Amazing smell and moisture adn you'll find that, after using the product for a week or two, it leaves a
gorgeous, subtle shimmer on your skin! I love it!
Well I think after reading your list of ingredients they are on the right track. What the companies don't tell you is that in order for ingredients to be effective...they should be active ingredients. As an esthetician I have an on again off again love of OTC products.
They hype you up, get you hooked and leave out the small yet very important details of how many times you will need to use their product to see results. 1, 10, 1 million times. There is no quick fix in skin care no magic solution. It is important to find what works and be consistent. Great post.
