The Beauty Closet: Purple Lab Silk Sheets Luxe Foundation

Editor's Note: The product mentioned in this post was sent by Purple Lab NYC for an exclusive launch party in honor of Purple Lab NYC's debut on the Home Shopping Network (HSN). The post is under construction as I am taking better photos for this review.

If you follow me on Twitter, you may have read my tweets about Purple Lab Silk Sheets Luxe Foundation ($34.50). As it turns out, my experience with Silk Sheets have been mostly good - the formula itself is creamy, silky, blendable, and feels great on the skin. However, since I have to do quite a bit to correct the shade (as you can see on the left), I am hesitant to actually buy Silk Sheets. This is a shame because Karen Robinovitz (the creatrix of Purple Lab) included "coveted ingredients" in Silk Sheets to include algae, hyaluronic acid, silk, juniper, almond seed oil, Vitamin C, and nettle. It also firms the complexion, as you can hopefully see on the right.

Want to see how I made Silk Sheets really work for me?

Another reason why I am hesitant to buy Silk Sheets is because it is hard to open! When I hosted my party on Thursday, my guests had a difficult time opening the seal. After 5-7 minutes of trying to figure out how open the darn thing, the seal actually popped off! I was like, "Oh my gosh!" Then I saw that the foundation in the container. It wasn't what I expect at all. It seemed to have separated a little bit and was a bit oily. Not good.

First, I knew that it was too light for my guests - they're all darker than me. Second, I knew there was a possibility that it would be too light even for me. So I applied it on my hand, blended it in and showed my guests. They were like, "Where did you apply it?" Silk Sheets had completed disappeared on my hand. Immediately some of my doubts evaporated. I figured there was hope for me after all. You can see how it turned out here.

I first applied Silk Sheets at 4:57. I finished applying my powder and bronzer at 5:15.  I didn't take off my makeup until early in the morning - around 3. So I wore Silk Sheets for about 10 hours! I took the picture on the right at 9:59 PM.

You mentioned that when you applied the foundation to your hand it disappeared. Did that happen as well when you applied it to you face? Or did you need to apply the additional bronzer to even the color out?

@Nicole: When I applied the foundation to my face, it didn't disappear since my face is darker than my hand, especially the outer perimeter. I needed the powder (MSF) to even it all out. I used the bronzer for contouring.

Hi There!
Is that really the dark in your first photo? Is this a foundation to be worn on its own? Let me know.
Thanks!!

@TheMakeupQueen: Yes, it is the dark in the first photo. It's marketed to be worn on its own but as you can see in the photo, that wouldn't be possible without powder and/or bronzer.

wait ...is that how the foundation looks after it's been blended and all that jazz?? because you look ashy and that's a no for any foundation. if it can't be worn alone, it doesn't deserve my money.

is it that how the foundation looks right before you applied mac????? great review!

That looks a mess I dont know what persuaded you to even think that was your color or it would blend in your skin. Its embarrassing for you to even start a post with this.

@Anonymous: Um, this was sent for editorial consideration by the company for me to review. It was the darkest shade they had. I simply showed how it looked in real life and how anyone could fix it by applying MSF. You would know that if you bothered to read the post! You want to know what embarassing though?? That you came on my blog and instead of leaving your name, you decided to write anonymously! Why not have the ovaries to leave your name?

Hi!
Let me first say that I love your makeup reviews. However, it does appear that majority of the time, you tend to wear foundation shades that are not suited to your skintone. Your shades seem to be geared towards a light or medium skinned tone as opposed to dark, which is just as beautiful, which you are. I believe that dark is beautiful!!!! Why not embrace that? And as others have stated, if you have to do so much to a foundation in order to make it work, maybe it really "doesn't". Have a blessed day and keep the reviews coming:)
